NWMT NEWS & NOTES: RIVERHEAD
NASCAR WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR |
A
Modified track since well before the formation of
the Whelen Modified Tour, Riverhead has been on the
schedule in each of the Tour's 26 years of
existence. Only Connecticut's Thompson International
Speedway can claim the same distinction. After
competing at the Monadnock Speedway quarter mile in
New Hampshire on July 17, the Whelen Modified Tour's
next stop will also be at a .25-mile oval. Aside
from the distance, there are few similarities as
Riverhead has less banking and is more narrow than
Monadnock. In addition to the uniqueness of the
track, the Riverhead stop for the Whelen Modified
Tour is also set apart from other events on the
schedule as a number of Riverhead's weekly NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series competitors enter the
race, and they've had measurable success....Full

GOODALE HAS "GOOD TALE" TO TELL ABOUT CANAAN FAIR
SPEEDWAY by Denise DuPont
THECHROMEHORN.com |
The
Modified Racing Series (MRS) migrated this week from
Maine to the 1/3 mile paved oval of Canaan Fair
Speedway in northern New Hampshire. The track is
nothing fancy when it comes to speedways, but it is
a fast track with a lot of grip and the modified
drivers love it. Eric Goodale, who has pledged to
run the MRS when he has an opening in his race
schedule, was the king of the Canaan groove Saturday
night. He won his heat race, started the race third,
passed for the lead on lap 12, dominated the race
and then went on to take the checkered flag for his
first MRS win. “Right from the beginning I knew that
we had a good car,” said Goodale. "As soon as we
unloaded (the car) out of the trailer we were fast.
As soon as I went out there I got it in the first
five laps, which was crucial"....Full

THE INTERNAL STRUGGLE (Part 2)
by Rev. Don Rivers
RACING WITH JESUS MINISTRIES |
As
I said last week, we are all familiar with the angel
on one shoulder and the devil on the other. We know
what is right and want to
do the right thing, but there is still that voice in
there that tells us we can do what we want. Let’s
continue as we close out our discussion of the
internal struggle that challenges each one of us.
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ. Have you ever tried to stretch your car to
the end of the race? Avoiding the pit stop and
hoping you had enough to make it. Sometimes we don’t
make it. Sometimes we fall short of the finish line....Full

Fifty
years ago in 1960 Tommy Fenley, one of the

Stack was the Wednesday night Modified winner at
what was then called the New London – Waterford
Speedbowl. Dick Beauregard was the non-Ford winner
and Newt Palm was the Bomber winner. Don Collins was
the Saturday night Modified winner at the shoreline
oval. Stack was the non-Ford winner and Palm
repeated in the Bombers.
Forty five years ago in 1965
