Mechanical Skills Tested at EXPO

Racingjunk.com and Speedway Illustrated Magazine have teamed up to bring a much-sought-after event to SpeedwayEXPO. Amateurs and fans alike are invited to participate in the Pit Stop Challenge on Saturday, March 3, at 7:00 PM at SpeedwayEXPO. Teams will perform a simulated pit stop on an authentic stock car in a race against the clock.
Four-member teams consisting of a jackman, front tire changer, rear tire changer and a tire carrier will be required to complete a pre-assigned tire-changing task. Penalties will be accessed for infractions. The winner will be the team with the lowest elapsed time and will receive a custom-made specialty trophy.
Pit Stop Challenge rules and application forms are available at www.speedwayexpo.com. Applications will be accepted on the day of the event as well. Contestants must be at least 18 years old and must register and read and sign the supplied waiver and release form.
Thanks to Mike Shanley and Team SPC 1, Pit Stop Challengers will work on a car that was driven in Winston Cup competition by none other than ’06 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion (and EXPO celebrity guest) Todd Bodine. The historic No. 94 Monopoly Ford Thunderbird was built for Bill Elliott and driven in four Cup races by Bodine after a broken leg at Talladega sidelined Elliott in 1996.
Kids are invited to get in on the action as well. EXPO vendor Big Daddy’s will offer a pint-sized Pit Stop Challenge. This safe, fun and exciting event will be on all weekend.
SpeedwayEXPO presented by Town Fair Tire, the Northeast’s largest motorsports expo, will feature more than three acres of indoor exhibit space with displays from local and regional race tracks and vendors of performance parts, accessories and safety equipment along with a great selection of collectibles and memorabilia. There will be activities for kids of all ages too, with pedal car races, R/C racing and more.
NHRA stars Melanie Troxel and Tommy Johnson, Jr. and NASCAR personalities Kenny Wallace, Clint Bowyer, Todd Bodine, Jeff Hammond and Mike Joy will make celebrity appearances. There will also be autograph sessions throughout the weekend with well-known racers from right here in the Northeast.
SpeedwayEXPO is set for March 2-4 at the Eastern States Exposition Center in West Springfield, MA. Coupons worth $5 toward EXPO admission are available at all Town Fair Tire stores. A store locator can be found on townfairtire.com. At the door, daily admission for SpeedwayEXPO is $15 for adults, no charge for children 10 and under.
