MODIFIED MANIA II JUST
AROUND THE CORNER AT THOMPSON
The second edition of MODIFIED MANIA will return to the Thompson
International Speedway the weekend of September 8 & 9. Fans of
Modified racing are getting excited over this unique race weekend
when almost every kind of asphalt Modified imaginable will be in
competition. Six distinct Modified divisions will participate in
this two-day race program which has been called an “open house for
open wheels.”
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will return for its fourth
appearance of the year. The NASCAR “Tour” will be joined by the True
Value Modifieds, the R.O.C. Modifieds, the Pro Four Modifieds and
Thompson’s own Sunoco and T. I. S. Modifieds.
Each division will practice and qualify on Saturday,
September 8th and will compete in feature racing on Sunday,
September 9th. The Sunday program will kick off with a huge fan
appreciation party on the race track beginning at 10:30 AM.
Race teams of the True Value Modified Series have been
participating in a series of qualifying races with the winner of
each being guaranteed a starting position in the 75-lap True Value
feature event. The competition was tremendous and six of the best in
the True Value Series can breathe just a bit easier knowing that
they have an “in” for MODIFIED MANIA II weekend. The drivers making
up this very special list includes Kirk Alexander who won at
Monadnock, Les Hinkley who captured the race at Lee USA Speedway,
Dwight Jarvis secured his spot at the Oxford Plains Speedway, Mike
Holdridge struck MODIFIED MAINA II gold at Beech Ridge, Jon
McKennedy took the top spot and a guaranteed starting position at
the Canaan Speedway and Vinny Annarummo claimed the honors of
representing Seekonk Speedway.
Each of these drivers received not only a guaranteed starting
spot in their feature race, but were also given a beautiful silver
cup, Sunoco jacket and gift certificate and a bottle of champagne
with which to celebrate.
Both divisions of the R.O.C. Tour will be on hand for this
‘combined’ R.O.C. event. Fans can expect to see drivers from both
the north and central R.O.C. camps and some very exciting
competition from this successful touring group. Drivers like Tony
and Matt Hirschman, Jan Leaty, Chuck Hossfeld, Pete Brittian, Lee
Sherwood and Eric Beers and many more make up this exciting touring
division and all are expected to be on hand for Modified Mania II.
Fan favorites, The Pro Four Modifieds, will also be on hand.
A torrid points chase is in full swing between Jeff Zuidema and
Kevin Iannarelli for the top spot. Joining them will be Rob
Richardi, Jr., Norman Wrenn, George Sherman, Dan Meservey and Joe
Lemay.
Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series Sunoco Modifieds
and Thompson Modifieds will be participating in this all-important
weekend since track championships are coming down to the wire and
each point gained becomes vital at this time of year.
Modified Mania II will attract the best of the best in open
wheel Modified racing. Fans will have an opportunity to meet these
exceptional race drivers in person when the gates to the race track
open at 10:30 AM on Sunday, September 9th for a huge fan
appreciation party. Competitors from all six divisions will have
their racecars on the track and the drivers will be there to meet
and greet the fans for autographs and photos. Fans are urged to
arrive early and enjoy the party that will go until just about 12
