OPEN PRACTICE THIS SATURDAY AT
THOMPSON
The snow is gone and the track is ready. That’s the word from the
Thompson International Speedway. With all systems “go”, the historic
speedway will open its gates at 10 AM this coming Saturday, March
31st, for the first of two open practice sessions leading up to the
season-opening ICEBREAKER.
Each year, Thompson International Speedway schedules two open
practice sessions that are open to any and all safe racecars. Each
car will be inspected and then will have from 12 Noon until 6 PM for
track time. Practice sessions will be run in a “round robin” format
by racing division for the entire six hour period. The main
grandstands will not be open. Everyone attending must sign into the
pit area for these practice sessions and must be at least 16 years
of age.
The second open practice date is scheduled for Saturday,
April 7th with the format being the same as March 31st. These two
open practice sessions provide race teams with an opportunity to
fine tune their racecars prior to the ICEBREAKER which is slated for
the weekend of April 14th & 15th.
Everyone is welcome to attend these sessions regardless of
the type of racecar that they own. NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour cars,
Busch East cars, along with virtually any type of racecar are all
welcome as long as they pass a safety inspection. Thompson’s 2007
General & Safety rules will be used to determine safety standards.
Anyone wishing to obtain a copy of the 2007 General & Safety Rules
may do so by visiting the Thompson Speedway web site and clicking on
“rules” on the left side of the track’s home page. Anyone unable to
access the web page may call the Thompson International Speedway to
request a copy of these rules along with rules for any of Thompson’s
six NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions.
This opportunity to fine tune racecars provides an advantage for
race teams planning to compete in the ICEBREAKER or any other event
on the Thomson 2007 schedule. Practice time on a race day is very
limited. Therefore, a full day of track time can become invaluable
to race teams wanting to get a good start on the racing season.
Thompson’s ICEBREAKER is a two-day racing event that brings out
thousands of winter weary fans looking to be part of the opening of
a brand new racing season. The excitement starts with the running of
the Daytona 500 and builds almost daily in anticipation of
Thompson’s opening day.
For more information on the ICEBREAKER, ticket sales or any of the
2007 activities at Thompson International Speedway, fans are urged
