MODIFIED MANIA RETURNS TO THOMPSON
The Sunoco Race Fuels Modified Mania, a two-day racing spectacle
that spotlights Modified race cars, will return to Thompson
September 6th & 7th. Six different divisions of Modified cars will
be in competition with some four hundred laps of feature event
racing as the main attraction.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (WMT) will top the list of touring
divisions taking part in this very special event. The WMT will be
joined by the True Value Modifieds, RoC Modifieds, Pro 4 Modifieds,
Thompson’s own Sunoco Modifieds and Thompson Modifieds will round
out the exciting lineup of racing.
The Sunoco Race Fuels Modified Mania will also feature Thompson’s
annual Fan Appreciation Party on Sunday morning. All of the race
teams competing in Sunday’s racing action will stage their cars on
the race track so that fans can meet and greet their favorite
drivers, take photos, collect autographs and more. The Fan
Appreciation Party will begin at 10:30 AM on Sunday, September 7th
and will go until 12 Noon. The race cars will then be cleared from
the track and a full afternoon of racing activity will begin.
Ronnie Silk will be the man to beat when the WMT rolls out onto the
speedway for their 150-lap main event. He has won three of the last
five WMT events at Thompson and is primed to go for number four.
Silk will find the competition at its peak with drivers like Todd
Szegedy, Chuck Hossfeld, Matt Hirschman, Ryan Preece, Mike Stefanik
and Ed Flemke being just some of the drivers looking to capture the
Modified Mania title.
The True Value Modifieds will be on hand to compete in a 75-lap
event. Drivers like Les Hinkley, Kirk Alexander, Dwight Jarvis and
Chris Pasteryak will lead the popular True Value contingent.
The Race of Champions (RoC) Modified Tour will also return to
Thompson for the Sunoco Modified Mania event. Drives like Jan Leaty,
Bill Putney, Daren Scherer, Matt Hirschman, Eric Beers, Pete
Brittain and many, many more will, like the True Value drivers,
compete in a 75-lap feature event.
Add to these touring divisions the super fast Pro 4 Modifieds,
Thompson’s own Sunoco Modifieds and Thompson Modifieds and it’s a
Modified race fans dream come true. Race cars will qualify on
Saturday, September 6th with features slated for Sunday, September
7th, beginning shortly after 12 Noon. The entire weekend’s schedule
may be found on the Thompson International Speedway web page,
