2009
WORLD SERIES OF ASPHALT STOCK CAR RACING
For more than 40 years, New Smyrna Speedway has played host to the
Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. Featuring the top
names in short track racing from around the U.S. and Canada, the
yearly event marks the beginning of the new season for many race
teams.
This event is the only time that Floridians get to witness the
stars of the NASCAR Tour-Type Modifieds and 'SK' Modifieds racing
around the high banked half mile. The oldest division in NASCAR, the
Tour-Type Modifieds have featured some of the most famous names in
racing including Geoff & Brett Bodine, Richie Evans, Steve Park,
Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Jimmy Spencer, Ted Christopher and many
many more.
Richie Evans coined the phrase, "if you can win at New Smyrna
Speedway... you can win anywhere in the U.S." This nine-night event
culminates each year with the running of the Richie Evans Memorial
100 on the final Friday night of competition and the Pete Orr
Memorial 100 for the Super Late Models on the following night.
