SHANGRI-LA II HOLDS GET ACQUAINTED NIGHT,
ANTICIPATES EXCITING 2009

      The New Shangri-La II Motor Speedway held its 'Get Acquainted Night' on Friday evening at the Treadway Inn in Owego, NY.
   The new speedway which is owned by George Swansbrough and managed by Amy Stilson released its schedule of events for its inaugural season and it is set to open Memorial Day Weekend with a huge two day Extravaganza. On Saturday, May 23, 2009 it will be a 50 lap race for the Modifieds, a 30 lap race for the Late Models, Twin 25's for the Sportsman Modifieds and a 35 lap race for the Street Stocks. The action will continue on Sunday, May 24, 2009 with a 50 lap race for the Late Models, 40 lap race for the Modifieds, 45 lap race for the Sportsman Modifieds and Twin 20's for the Street Stocks. "The plan is to open Memorial Day Weekend." said Swansborugh at the event. "If we do not have the lighting up at that time we will run in the afternoon if need be."
   Some of the other major highlights on the schedule included two other two day events on July 4th Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. The points season will conclude on Saturday, September 12, 2009 and a Non Points event will be held on October 3, 2009 called the Fall Brawl.
   A question and answers session regarding the rulebook, payout, schedule and other topics was held with Swansbrough. Joining him for the event was Matt Jilson, the head of tech inspection. Engine builders Gail Clark and Chris Snyder was present for the event along with Bob Gentile of Doug's Speed Shop, Jason Urso of Hoosier Race Tires and Paul Jankowsky of Insinger Race Fuels. Ron Hills of the Race Report emceed the event. Hills also did television interviews and provided video footage of the original Shangri-La Motor Speedway.
   Door Prizes was given away at the event. They included Helmets, Mechanics Wear, Tools, Jack Stands, Oil, Racing Tape, Hats, T-Shirts, Leather Jackets and more. The speedway also had items for sale at the event which included copies of the Rulebook, T-Shirts, Window Stickers, Mousepads and more.
   "All I have is very good things to say about what George and everyone at the speedway is doing to bring racing back to our area." said Billy Ray Pruitt, when asked about some of the topics discussed at the event. The Pruitt's are competitors in the Sportsman Modified division and Late Model division. "Patti and myself plan on staying close to home next season, you can plan be seeing us weekly."
   "Its been 4 years without racing in this area, Scherer and myself have got used to running the RoC Modified Tour." said Rusty Smith. "We got some thinking to do but you can plan on seeing us at the speedway some next season."
   The speedways Lap Money & Special Awards Program was released at the event. The program will be ran by Public Relations director Brock Moore and the director of Sales & Marketing Jason Hall. The Lap Money Program dates will be Break the Bank Night on Saturday, July 25, 2009 and Dash for Cash Night on Saturday, August 29, 2009. The Special Awards Program will include Best Appearing Car, Hard Charger, Front Runner and Hard Luck awards. The dates currently scheduled for this program is the Saturday Shootout on June 27, 2009 and Rubbin' is Racin' Night on August 22, 2009. Full details on the program will be released on the tracks website sometime in the near future.
