RACE OF CHAMPIONS DART ASPHALT MODIFIED TOUR
EVENT SLATED
FOR MAHONING VALLEY ON JULY 26TH IS CANCELLED
The Saturday, July 26th Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour
that was slated to be to run at the Mahoning Valley Speedway has
been cancelled. After conversations between Andrew Harpell, Gena and
Doug Hoffman the race has been taken off the 2008 schedule.
Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour Director Andrew
Harpell remarked about the schedule change, "To be perfectly clear
there is no rift between the Race of Champions and Mahoning Valley
Speedway or any of the personnel.' 'We have already discussed next
season and we fully anticipate being back at the speedway with the
RoC Tour in 2009."
Mahoning Valley Speedway has suffered through a season plagued with
bad weather. Seven rainouts in 2008 have certainly made for a
difficult season at the popular quarter mile oval. "It is so hard to
gain any momentum in this industry when you have that many
rainouts", stated Harpell. "As a track owner I can fully appreciate
how hard that can be for a track operator."
The decision was finalized on Saturday, July 19th between the
Hoffman's and Harpell to give both the race teams and spectators any
opportunity to plan accordingly. Mahoning Valley Speedway will
conduct a regular racing program of Modifieds, Late Models, Street
Stocks, Pro 4 and Four Cylinders next Saturday, July 26th. The
action gets underway at 7 p.m.
Lastly Harpell commented, "We really appreciate the advance notice
provided by the Hoffman's regarding this event, they have been hit
hard with bad weather this season and I fully understand the
reasoning behind the decision. We look forward to working with them
again in 2009 and will still have RoC qualifiers for their support
divisions prior to the 58th RoC Weekend this year."
Weather has played havoc with the entire northeast 2008 racing
season. The Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Tour has had two rainouts
thus far and at Oswego Speedway this past Saturday the 100 lap
feature was called complete on lap 87 due to rain.
Looking ahead the next event on the Race of Champions Dart Asphalt
Modified Tour is a Friday August 1st stop at John White’s beautiful
Spencer Speedway. Defending RoC Tour champion Pete Brittain will be
leading the points at Spencer with Matt Hirschman, Daren Scherer,
Billy Putney and defending Spencer race winner Jan Leaty completing
the top five.
Spencer will be the fourth of five regular season point races
before the season ending five championship series events that will
determine the Race of Champions Dart Asphalt Modified Tour Champion
this year.
