60 YEARS OF NASCAR MODIFIED CHAMPIONS CELEBRATION
CULMINATES WITH BANQUET AT MOHEGAN SUN

   The 61st champion in NASCAR Modified history will be crowned at the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Awards Banquet Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Conn., bringing to a close the year-long celebration the Modified division’s rich heritage in NASCAR.
   Throughout the 2008 season, the past champions in NASCAR’s Modified history have been honored, dating back to Red Byron’s first title in 1948. Donny Lia of Jericho , N.Y. , became the 60th Modified champion in NASCAR history when he earned his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship last year.
   In addition to the coronation of the champion, the top drivers and owners and special award winners will be honored.
   Mohegan Sun, owned by the Mohegan Tribe, is one of the largest, most distinctive and spectacular entertainment, gaming, shopping and meeting destinations in the United States . Situated on 240 acres along the Thames River in scenic southeastern Connecticut , Mohegan Sun is within easy access of New York , Boston , Hartford and Providence and located 15 minutes from the museums, antique shops and waterfront of Mystic Country.
