CHEMUNG CLOSES OUT 2008 WITH
BIG DOUBLE HEADER OCTOBER 3rd & 4th
NASCAR Modified Tour Event Headlines The Action

The much-awaited return of NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour at Chemung Speedrome is just days away. A big double-header will now cap off the Speedrome’s 2008 season, starting with support division races on Friday night (October 3rd) and four big events on Saturday, October 4th. Everyone wins with this menu.
The NASCAR Modified Tour schedule in 2008 has included celebrations of 60 years of Modified champions at the various venues. They included Jimmy Spencer at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Jerry Cook at Mansfield Motorsports Park, and Jamie “The Jet” Tomaino in July at Chemung’s sister track, Spencer Speedway. On Saturday, October 4th Chemung celebrates all of the past champions currently active. Mike Stefanik, Tomaino, and Todd Szegedy remain active and will receive special recognition at the track.
Race fans can enjoy a full day of action on Saturday, with the Tour Modifieds running time trials, a pair of 25-lap heat races, and a 120-lap feature. With just 2 races left on the 2008 schedule, doing well at Chemung is a must for those in the hunt for this year’s title and the point fund money that goes with it. Ted Christopher and Chuck Hossfeld are taking this one down to the final checkered flag in Thompson, CT.
The only previous Modified Tour event at the Speedrome was in 2001, when Jerry Marquis grabbed the win. He kept it exciting right to the end, passing Reggie Ruggiero with just 5 laps remaining. A late caution extended the event by 7 laps and it ended with a green-white-checkered restart. Marquis held his line, got the win, and he ended the season 2nd in points to Stefanik.
The NASCAR Weekly Modifieds will also be in action on Saturday (using ROC rules), along with the popular ATQMRA TQ Midgets and the INEX Legends. Pit gates open at 9:30 AM, with practice and grandstand gates open at 1 PM. Racing starts at 3 PM. Tickets are $35 for adults, $8 for kids 6-12, and admission is always free for kids 5 and under. Rain date is Sunday, October 5th.
Friday night’s program gives the track’s other support divisions one more opportunity to race (using ROC rules). That one includes the Super Stocks, 4 Cylinders, Speedrome Juniors and the Bandoleros. Pit gates open at 4:30 on Friday October 3rd, with practice getting underway at 5:45 PM. Grandstand gates open at 6 PM, and racing starts at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 and free for kids 5 and under.
