NEW ENGLAND’S BIGGEST RACING WEEKEND NEARS

The World Series of Speedway Racing, the biggest auto racing event of its kind in the northeast, will be held at the Thompson International Speedway October 17, 18 & 19, 2008. There is nothing quite like this massive three-day racing spectacular that hosts hundreds of race cars and thousands of race fans.
Fourteen different racing divisions will make up this year’s XTRAMART World Series. It is the largest and most diversified racing weekend held anywhere in the country.
The huge Thompson pit area is filled to capacity with race cars and race trucks. The lineup includes the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, ISMA Super Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, Pro 4 Modifieds, Thompson’s “Super Six” NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions, ARTS trucks, and three different “outlaw” divisions. Many of the touring divisions will crown their champions on World Series weekend.
The competition area is filled with race cars and the parking area is filled with campers. Race fans from all up and down the east coast and two Canadian Provinces make the annual pilgrimage to Thompson for this once-a-year, three-day racing extravaganza.
The 35th annual XTRAMART World Series of Speedway racing is a full weekend of racing, parties, golf, dinners at the Thompson Club House, short trips to nearby attractions and more. For many, the World Series is the starting point for their annual fall foliage venture. Those arriving early usually make short trips to nearby shopping malls, the two world famous casinos that are only a few miles south of the tack or they simply enjoy the beauty of the countryside in Connecticut’s “Quite Corner.”
Racing is the number one item on the agenda, but the World Series is also famous as one of the greatest party weekends at any race track. Friendships are renewed and new friendships are made among the thousands of race fans that gather for this annual event. Race fans will be pleased to learn that ticket prices have not changed since last year’s event and that camping is still free for those with self contained units.
Race cars that practice and qualify on Friday will race in their feature events on Saturday evening. The racers who practice and qualify on Saturday afternoon will have their big races on Sunday. The entire schedule of events, locations for nearby lodging and much more may be found on the Thompson web site, www.thompsonspeedway.com.
Fans wishing to purchase tickets in advance may do so by calling the Thompson International Speedway track office at 860-923-2280.

THE END
