MODIFIED WINTER NATIONALS TO OPEN
SOUTHERN MODIFIED RACE TOUR SEASON
Modified Racing Returns to
Orange County Speedway |
Officials from C & C Racing Promotions and the American Speed
Association (ASA) sanctioned Southern Modified Race Tour announced today
that the first Modified race in the South for the 2009 season will take
place on March 6 & 7 at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC. The event
marks the return to one of the fastest tracks in the area for the Mod Squad
and kicks off a 12 race schedule for the ASA / SMRT series.
“We are thrilled that Charles and Chad Kepley from C & C Racing
Promotions and C & C Racing Souvenirs have chosen the Southern Modified Race
Tour as a partner in their promotion of a Modified race at OCS”, said SMRT
Promoter, Randy Myers. “Charles and Chad promote the “North – South
Shootout”, the premier Modified race in the South at Concord Motorsport Park
each November. That event is highlighted by the “John Blewett III Memorial
125”. To have them expand their promotions to a new event at Orange County
and to feature the SMRT series as a part of the event certainly helps us get
our season off and running in the right direction”, Myers said. The Frost
Bite Modified Winter Nationals is the first of two SMRT events scheduled for
OCS in 2009.
The Frost Bite Modified Winter Nationals is highlighted by a 125
lap feature that will be named after a long-time supporter of the Southern
Mods, Josh Jenkins. Josh was a co-founder of the old SMART Modified tour as
well as a car owner and supporter of the Southern Mods. He was also involved
in the inaugural North – South Shootout and continued to support the
Southern Modifieds and the “Shootout” until his untimely death. Jenkins
passed away last year and the Kepley’s dedicated the feature event of the
“Frost Bite Modified Winter Nationals”, the “Josh Jenkins Memorial 125” to
his memory.
