The stars of the American Speed Association (ASA) Southern Modified Race
Tour (SMRT) roars into Dillon Motor Speedway next Saturday night for the
running of the “UPSTATE 125” presented by Carolina Carports Racing. This
marks the return to the 4/10 mile oval for the open-wheel rockets of the
Southern Modified tour. They last raced there in 2007 with Brian king
notching the win. Weather played havoc with the DMS events for the “Mod
Squad” in 2008. The race is the first of two set for Dillon in 2009.
King heads the list of entries for the Modified race with strong
challenges expected from Jason Myers, Jay Foley and Scott Rigney. Greg
Butcher, Kevin Wilson and several more of the best Modified drivers in the
South will be on hand to try to tame the tough Dillon track. “Rookie of the
Year” leader, Danny Bohn is also on the entry list along with Josh Nichols
and Darrell Krentz. The 600+ horsepower cars with 15 inch wide tires weigh
in at 2635 pounds and will turn the DMS oval in the 14 second bracket.
The “vintage” cars of the East Coast Flathead Ford Racing
Association are also on the card with the Modifieds. The Coupes and Coaches
that made racing history back in the 50’s will take you back to the days
when men-were-men wheeling the vintage cars around for 20 laps.
Dillon Motor Speedway “Super Trucks” and “Street Stock” divisions
round out a night of racing excitement on Saturday, July 18th. Racing action
gets under way at 8:00 PM.
