REPAVING
PROJECT STARTS
AT SPENCER |
The 55 year old Spencer Speedway is preparing to accept a new coat of
asphalt. It has not been since 1964 that the track has been repaved. With
the help of the All County Construction crew milling machines have begun
ripping up the historic half mile oval.
“We are pretty much keeping the same configuration, “stated track
owner John White . “Not only will All County Construction be working the
oval, but the drag strip also up to the concrete launching pad”
The track surface is to be milled and tightened up before the new
surface is applied. That surface is going to include a special polymer mix
used at other NASCAR tracks. This mix will add to the adhesion the cars will
be able to grab on the new surface and should make for exciting side-by-side
action starting in May 2010. Besides the added traction it has been found
that this polymer cuts down on tire wear.
Other track improvements are in the works at the half mile oval and
should be completed before the start of the new season. Look for more
updates to follow.
Spencer Speedway is located just fifteen minutes east of Rochester
, NY , along Route 104 in the Town of Williamson . Spencer Speedway is the
local “ NASCAR Place to Race” for upstate New York . Points earned each week
at Spencer are counted into the national NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
championship.
