LOOKING FOR SOME IMPETUS IN CHEMUNG |
The DeLange Racing team was geared up for the Third Hand of the Modified 100
Poker Series at Mahoning Valley Speedway in Lehighton, Pennsylvania last
Saturday night. Driver Eric Beers has a long history of success at the fast
quarter-mile oval and was looking to repeat his success in Hand One on April
18 when he played the winning hand to take home the jackpot.
In time trials the Northampton, Pennsylvania native was eighth
fastest and then drew the same position in the starting line-up. At the drop
of the green flag he began to race his way forward and was running fourth
when thunderstorms reached the track during a lap 37 caution. The downpour
refused to subside and the race had to be postponed until August 22. That
night will also raise the ante as Hand Four will follow the remaining 63
laps of the third game of Poker.
This coming Sunday afternoon the racing moves to the Southern Tier
of New York. Chemung Speedrome in Chemung, New York will host the Second
Annual Chemung 150, the fifth qualifier on the Race of Champions Dart
Asphalt Modified Tour schedule and the first of four Championship races on
the RoC schedule. The DeLange team is anxious to visit one of their favorite
tracks and return to the winners circle at Bob Stapleton’s unique
three-eighths mile oval.
Chemung Speedrome is one of my favorite tracks and Eric knows it
very well,” says team owner Dave DeLange. “Our recent motor problems were
behind us and we were running strongly at Mahoning Valley before the
torrential downpours wiped out the remainder of the night’s racing. But
we’ve regained some momentum that we will carry into Chemung. I’m looking
for a very competitive race by our team that will get us back on target to
achieve our primary goal for the 2009 season, the Race of Champions Tour
championship. It should also give us energy as we move toward September and
make a serious run at our first Race of Champions 200 victory. I can’t wait
to get started and it will begin Sunday night.”
