Two races, two tracks , two states, and the second win in a row for Jon
McKennedy as he took the checkers in the Connecticut Laborers Union 100
TVMRS race at Seekonk Speedway. Starting at the back of all the qualifying
drivers Jon deftly drove his way to the front until he met the rear bumper
of the man who owns the real estate, Vinnie ‘Who’ Annarummo. McKennedy tried
low and high but for several laps there was no way to get around Vinnie
‘Who’.
McKennedy was patient until he saw the right opportunity as the lap
traffic got heavier and then he made his move. On lap eighty-five he
successfully passed for the lead. “I knew that we had a good car. For a
little while I was concerned that the race was going green and he was pretty
far ahead. Once we got up to him (Vinnie Annarummo) it was tough racing. He
knows every bump and groove in the track. I was able to use the lapped car
as a pivot car to pass him on the outside.”
Also two for two in the TVMRS was Dwight Jarvis who finished in the
runner up position again this week behind McKennedy.. Dwight Jarvis started
one spot behind McKennedy in nineteenth and came through the pack one spot
short again for the win. “Jon is a fast kid. We will get him sooner or
later. I want to thank Seekonk for having us down here to this beautiful
place we will be back but hopefully one spot higher than where are at.“
Jimmy Kuhn, Jr had a podium finish after running in the TVMRS for
the first time this year. He started the race mid-pack and had a last minute
burst of power that allowed him to pass Vinnie ‘Who’ Annarummo for the third
place finish. “It was an awesome night. It felt real good back racing and I
can’t be happier. Especially here because we never ran all that good here
and we have been working to get it better and better. Last year we improved
and this year definitely right off the bat we have been better.”
Vinnie ‘Who’ Annarummo was back behind the wheel of a Francis Farm
sponsored modified car at Seekonk’s first TVMRS race this year. For him it
was like riding a bike, something that you never forget. But his car was
loose and he missed the setup costing him the win. “This is the first race
that we raced with Hoosier tires. We did not know how much to tighten it
(the car) up for the end of the race and the car just got loose. The rack
and pinion steering messed up at the end on us. I guess that it was just
that my preparation was just not good enough.”
The top four drivers’s raced side by side and provided some great
entertainment for fans. In the end though, McKennedy was able to pass
veteran drivers including Seekonk’s master to take the win. “Jon is a good
driver,” Said Vinnie in inspection. “He deserved to win. We did not do our
homework. The team learned some lessons for the next race. I think that the
car is fast. We just cannot make it go like that though to the end of the
race”.
The next TVMRS event is Thursday June 18 at the Thompson Speedway,
Thompson, CT. Race time is 5:30 PM.
Seekonk Speedway Race Notes June 13, 2009
Jon McKennedy
Is McKennedy happy with his race results this year?
“I feel real good. I think that everywhere that we have gone this
year that we have been the fastest car although some race circumstances have
taken us out. But lately luck has been on our side. You definitely need a
little bit of luck when you are racing. Racing is tough. You need everything
to go your way. And when things are going you way everything just seems to
be going awesome.
The #73 race team is working to race in June at the NWMT race at New
Hampshire Motorsport Speedway. “We are trying to pull something together.
New Hampshire is the Daytona Speedway for the modifieds. Hopefully we can
get something. If not we will try later on in the year. It is tough right
now with the economy and trying to get sponsorship. We will see. Hopefully
in the next few days here we will know. “
Jimmy Kuhn, Jr.
What are the #72 TVMRS race plans for 2009?
“We are going to go to Thompson on Thursday so we are getting ready
for that. I am looking forward to that. We have been struggling. We finally
got the motor back together yesterday and just put the motor in. We broke a
motor in practice back in April and we have been working since then to get
it back together. So we finally got the motor together yesterday. We have
been working all the time just to got it together yesterday. We are happy
with our finish tonight.”
Vinny ‘Who’ Annarummo
This year the Annarummo family has father-son teams racing in the
TVMRS. Vinnie ‘Who’ has passed the wheel of the familiar #12 Francis Farm
sponsored car to his son Todd. This year he is driving the #11 car with a
similar paint scheme and sponsors. “This is Carl Pasteryak’s last year car.
We bought that over the winter; Bobby Carrita bought it and asked me to
drive it for him.”
As always, Vinnie ‘Who’ had words of wisdom after completing the
TVMRS race in fourth.. “It was a good race, but it would have been better if
I won.”
