RIVERHEAD 175
TO PAY $4,000 TO WIN
THANKS TO LOCAL RACING ENTHUSIAST |
Saturday night when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour visits Riverhead Raceway
for the 25th consecutive year for the Riverhead 175 the winners share of the
race has increased to $4,000 thanks to local racing enthusiast Jim Schaefer
of Riverhead. Schaefer has posted an additional $1,400 to the race winner on
top of the $2,600 posted award as per the NASCAR entry blank.
Jim Schaefer is a life long fan of NASCAR Modified racing and
Modified racing in general and is a resident of Riverhead where he teaches
the 4th grade in the Riverhead School District. Know as the LI Mod Maniac on
the various racing message boards Schaefer has been known to travel far and
wide to watch the open wheel Modifieds up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Jim
is a fan locally of the Brunnhoelzl racing family, rooting for all three
generation from Ed Sr. to Ed Jr. and currently for Eddie III.
"Jim sent us an e-mail Monday about adding the extra money and
after Barbara & Jim Cromarty approved and NASCAR gave it the okay the race
is now worth $4,000 to win", Bob Finan of Riverhead Raceway noted. "I'll
admit it's a little different, but it just goes to show you how much Jim
really loves Modified racing and all the people around it. Barbara & Jim
want to express their heartfelt thanks to Jim for his generous offer".
Schaefer hopes to have some of his students join him in his
familiar seats at Riverhead, on the frontstretch just off turn four and
he'll be in victory lane afterwards to present the winning team their
trophy. Jimmy "Showtime" Blewett of Howell, N.J. is the defending race
winner of the Riverhead 175. As of press time 30 entries have been received
in the Riverhead raceway office for the race that will start 28 cars.
