Happy New Year! It seems like just a short time ago we were concerned with
Y2K. Some were so concerned they created hysteria and stockpiled basic
necessities waiting for the world to collapse. It didn’t happen. Now ten
years later we sit and wonder what tomorrow holds for us. Greetings in the
name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
New Year’s resolutions have been the butt of many a jokes
throughout the years. It seems we have difficulty keeping them. So much so
we have been known to have contests about how long we will go before we
fail. Our resolutions are well intended enough but we just don’t seen to
have what it takes to follow through. Maybe we need to be visited by a few
ghosts before we are sufficiently motivated to change?
Charles Dickens wrote a story about a man given a second chance to
get things right, “A Christmas Carol”. This story is credited with returning
Christmas to a holiday of merriment and festivity. Have we failed to see the
blessing of Christmas? Have we failed to see the chance we have to begin
again?
Scrooge awoke from his nightmare to find out he hadn’t missed
Christmas after all. He had a chance to begin again, to change the way
others perceived him and use the life that he was given to make a difference
in the lives of others. Follow along the words to his song.
I'll begin again, I will build my life
I will live to know, I fulfilled my life
I'll begin today, Throw away the past
And the future I build, Will be something that will last
I will take the time, That I have left to live
And I'll give it all, That I have left to give
I will live my days, For my fellow men
I will start anew, I will make amends
And I will make quite certain, That the story ends
On a note of hope, On a strong amen
And I'll thank the world, And remember when
I was able to begin again.
Are you ready to begin again?
Are you ready to leave yesterday behind and focus on living today? Dickens’s
story is biblically based. Paul helps us see the same point. Listen to
Paul’s words
Philippians 3:13-14; Brothers, I
do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do:
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on
toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in
Christ Jesus.
He tells us two important things about beginning again. First,
forget the past. What happened yesterday is done. No matter how hard we try
we cannot change it. Don’t get caught up trying to change things you cannot
change. Ask for forgiveness and move forward. Commit to do things in a way
that honors God.
Second, persevere. Don’t let yourself get caught up in self pity.
Don’t let yourself get caught in the trap of holding grudges against other.
You only imprison yourself. Instead forgive and forget, move on and make
every effort to let Christ reign in your life.
Make every effort to live life focused on the circumstances at
hand. Do not look behind, but persevere through the challenges of today. If
you make a mistake, ask for forgiveness, learn from your mistake and move
on. Your eternity is secure in that Christ gave his life for you. Press on
toward that goal.
I hope your new year brings you the opportunity to put the things
of the past behind you. I hope it gives you the opportunity to begin again,
to live a life blessed by our Lord and Savior. God Bless, Rev. Don
THOUGHTS FROM THE ROAD
MOTORSPORTS 2010 - A few short weeks and we will see each
other down in Philly. Our lineup for cars is coming together. We should have
the Championship car from both the Camping World East and Whelen Modified
Tour along with the second place car from the Camping World East. Our Pace
Car with the competitive hood will also be on display. We should also have a
TQ midget to round things out.
We have Ryan Preece lined up to do an autograph session on
Saturday. We have some others we are trying to get in place and when we get
those nailed down you will be the first to know.
Make your plans now to join us at the show.
It has been a wonderful holiday season. I have enjoyed some quality
time with friends and family. I hope your holidays were as meaningful as
mine. We are looking forward to getting back into the swing of things this
week. Have a great week.
