EAST-WEST
SHOWDOWN RESUMES
AT ALBANY-SARATOGA FRIDAY |
|
The
much anticipated matchup of New England’s Modified Racing Series, sponsored
by Bob Valenti AutoMall.Com and the New York based, ROC DART Asphalt Series,
resumes Friday night, May 21, when both sanctioning groups embark on the
famed Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Malta, New York.
The race, originally scheduled April 18, was rained out after two qualifying
heats were completed. Forty-nine race teams were attempting to qualify for
the 100 lap feature when the skies opened forcing postponement.
“Pistol Pete” Brittain, Allentown, New Jersey., won the first qualifying
race while Koszela Speed Rookie Of The Year contender Norman Wrenn, Nashua,
NH., passed race leader Joe Doucette, Framingham, MA., on the last lap to
capture the second heat race.
The third qualifying race was the victim of rain and even sleet resulting in
the decision to postpone the program until this Friday night. Another rookie
candidate, Todd Annarummo, Swansea, MA. was the early race leader. The 12
lap event will be restarted on lap three.
A fourth round of qualifying is scheduled as well as two last chance
consolation races.
Drivers expected to return include 2009 MRS champion, Jon McKennedy,
E.Chelmsford, MA., and 2009 ROC champion, Matt Hirschman., Northampton, PA.
All Albany-Saratoga divisions will be in action. Racing starts at 6:45 PM.
Rain checks from the postponed program will be honored. |
