DAVID'S HOUSE
FOUNDER
NAMED GRAND MARSHALL OF RICKY'S RACE |
|
Dick
Cyr, President Emeritus of David’s House in Lebanon, NH. has been named
Grand Marshall for the third annual 112 lap “Ricky’s Race For Kids” for
open-wheel modified race cars. Cyr will drop the green flag to officially
start this year’s race to be held at Canaan Fair Speedway, Saturday, July
24, featuring the return of the Modified Racing Series, sponsored by
BobValenti AutoMall.Com. Race time is 5:00 PM.
The race is held to honor the memory of Ricky Miller, a New England racing
standout who died at the age of 34 from complications from a racing
accident. This year, the two-day event, will again serve as a fundraiser for
David’s House, in Lebanon, NH.
Last October, a total of $10,012, was raised by retired racing great Donnie
“The Golden Jet” Miller, his family, and a large support base. This year the
family hopes to surpass that amount.
“I have met thousands of people through David’s House in the past 24 ½ years
either as guests at David’s House or at a fundraiser, said founder Dick Cyr.
They are all very special, but the Miller family is so dedicated to the
memories of Ricky, as are all families who lose a child. The work and love
the Miller family puts into Ricky’s Racing for Kids is a work of love.
Having met the Miller family and sharing Ricky’s memory with them has had a
tremendous impact on me, one I will never forget. It’s one more reason why
David’s House keeps on going.”
In only three years the Ricky’s Race for Kids has become well-known, thanks
to Cyr sharing his appreciation. “Sometimes when at David’s House a guest
maybe from New Hampshire or Oregon or from Russia will ask how David’s House
is funded and I will tell them some of the great things like Ricky’s Race
for Kids. So Ricky, like David, is known all over the world with great
appreciation.”
This year’s event will cover two days. Friday, July 23, will feature a live
radio broadcast (KIXX 100.5) from Gateway Motors, White River Junction, VT.,
race cars and antique cars on display, race ticket giveaways, followed by a
Saturday pit party at the speedway on race day. A $1,000 cash door prize
will be given away.
A special raffle will be held with tickets on sale both Friday and Saturday.
1st Prize will be 4 VIP Tickets to the Colts vs. Patriots game. This will
include VIP parking, pre game party with cheerleaders, food and 50 yard line
seats. The works!! 2nd Prize will be 4 Red Sox vs. Yankees Tickets. These
tickets will include transportation to and from the game and 3rd prize will
be 4 VIP tickets to the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in
Loudon, NH. All of the prizes will be drawn before the Modified Racing
Series. You DO NOT need to be present to win.
David’s House is named after David Cyr, who died at the age of 5 in 1984, a
victim of leukemia. His father, Dick, along with friends, immediately
started to raise funds to create a facility where families could stay while
their loved ones were being treated at nearby Mary Hitchcock Memorial
Hospital in Hanover, NH.
