Mod Tour Type Win – Monday February 8, 2010
On Monday, February 8, 2010, Ron Silk took the checkers to win the second
Mod Tour event of Speed Week. This year Silk is driving both an SK and Tour
Mod for the TS Haulers team. “The car has been really good. I was able to
start it up front with the redraw.”
“I was able to catch Ted with some time to work with him. A lapped car
slowed him down (Ted Christopher) and let me get to him. He just lifted up a
little bit in turn two and I was able to get a run and he was right with me
the rest of the race. I just tried to stay on the bottom and protect the
lead and it was enough to hold him off.”
Mod Tour Type Second Place to Last – Wednesday February 9, 2010
The third Tour Mod Race was won by Ted Christopher in the #00 car. Silk held
on and completed the race in second. “TC was just better than we were last
night. We were just too tight the whole time and the car stayed tight the
whole time. We thought that it would free up if it was a little bit longer
race and it didn’t. He had the car to beat and he won. We changed some stuff
around for today and we are going to go him tonight.
After post race inspection on Wednesday, February 9th, the #6 Tour Mod was
disqualified for having changed the Cam in a Spec Engine.
Ron Silk’s thoughts: “I do not know what is in the motor. I try to be
involved but I just drive the thing. If they say we are illegal what are you
going to do? You can go and fight with them (officials). If you do you might
as well bounce your head off the wall. It is what it is. I guess we do not
have to worry about the points we will just try to win.”
Were changes done to the motor for today’s Tour Mod race? “Yes there were.
They are letting us run to night so obviously they did. Which is fine, we
will go out race and try to win tonight.”
After the SK race and altercations, do you think that Keith Rocco had an
objective? “Absolutely, there is trouble where ever he goes. I caught the
kid from about a half a straight away behind. I pulled out underneath him
and he just kept turning left until he broke something in the left front.
Then as I was driving around under caution he throws a block of wood at he
car. Then he comes back out driving all around like a maniac. You know under
yellow he was going by the field. At some point someone has to take control,
he should not be out there. But nothing happened. On the restart he was
suppose to start last and he started third. We had a problem that the motor
was skipping. It skipped for about a half a lap, so he (Keith Rocco) was
able to get by. Once my motor started running fine, I ran him down, got to
him, was working him over, went to the outside of him. He tried driving me
into the wall on the front stretch. So I turned left on him and hooked him
into the fence. He got what he deserved.”
Ron Silk’s thoughts on driving with a new team for 2010? “I think that I am
in a really good situation. With the tour races that I ran for them last
year at Loudon and Martinsville, we won Loudon and we got the pole at
Martinsville and finished fourth. These are the same guys when I ran the 19.
Eddie Partridge gives us great equipment to work with. The SK is a missile
so I think it is going to be a good year. I am looking forward to it. We are
going to run Thompson weekly with the SK mod. I do not think that we are
going to run Stafford. We are going to run the Tour, the open Tour type
races that they have at Thompson, they will be with us there any way. I do
not know we may run some of the True Value (Modified Racing Series) stuff.
We will pick and choose what we do.
Mod Tour Type First Place Finish – Thursday February 9, 2010
Ron Silk was a man on a mission as he competed on Thursday night in the Mod
Tour feature event. Everyone had their eyes on him as he raced. When he took
over the lead, everyone then questioned whether the car was legal or not.
Since the car had been disqualified on Wednesday night, officials had the #6
team add 100 pounds of weight to the car to compensate for the non spec Cam
found in the Spec Engine. There were rumors that they were going to require
more weight be added before race time, but that ended up being only a rumor.
When we left the race track at midnight Thursday evening, officials still
had the #6 car in tech waiting for the engine to cool so they could pump it.
Once tech was completed, officials’ would determine the outcome. Checking
the track points for the Tour Mods Silk has gone from seventeenth in points
to ninth place. If I were to wager a guess it appears that Ron Silk
maintained his first place finish and is the winner of the fourth Tour Mod
race and has a second win for the week.
We have contacted a track official and were told that the Thursday night
Tour Type Mod results were official. Silk was the winner.
