NIGHT THREE AND FOURTH IN POINTS FOR ROWAN PENNINK
by Denise DuPont

“We have kept the car out of trouble all week. We did not qualify to well yesterday. But we got back out and ended up fifth.” So the #19 team may not have won a race after three nights of racing, but they sit fourth in points after Tuesday night’s racing finished.

“It is just tough racing against some of these people with really big motors here. We did not protest (the possibility of an illegal engine in the #6 Tour Mod),” said Rowan as the team prepped the car for Thursday night’s race. “If they keep letting this stuff go on here, they are not going to be racing at all down here. They need to crack down on the rules and make everyone come with the same stuff other wise they are going to keep building their crazy motors for here. It is not fair.”

“We change a whole bunch of stuff around for tonight and got it (the car) going better.”
Pennink completed qualifying again not as well as he wished he could. He ended up tenth in qualifying. Then as racing started the challenges continued for the #19 team. On lap 4 of the feature event Pennink was involved in an incident that took out Matt Hirschman, Charlie Pasteryak and Tommy Cloce.

Pennink’s car was damaged and towed onto pit road where his crew made repairs to get him back out racing. Pennink came out in time to take the green flag, but still the #19 car continued to pit for tweaking during cautions. When it appeared that they had the right combination, Pennink started to race hard back into competition. He came around the corner of turn three though only to come face to face with a car across the track. The lap before, TC had a tire going flat and started driving slow on the track. While running slow, the #00 car was tapped from behind by Eric Goodale sending the car spinning on the track. TC sat across the track and as the hard charging Pennink came around turn three he went directly into the #00 car. Both cars had severe enough damage to tow them into the garage area.

The #19 car never made it back out to complete the race so finishing the night’s racing, the team slipped from fourth to fifth in Tour Mod points.
