"9/11 MEMORIAL
NIGHT" AT SHANGRI-LA II ON SAT, SEPT. 11 WILL QUALIFY
WINNERS FOR NOVEMBER'S NORTH-SOUTH SHOOTOUT AT CONCORD, N.C. |
|
In
addition to deciding the 2010 track championships, the "9/11 Memorial Night"
features at Shangri-La II Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 11 will send
the Modified and Sportsman Modified winners to the 8th annual North-South
Shootout at Concord (N.C.) Motor Speedway with guaranteed starting
positions.
Shangri-La II's ASA Member Track program that night will also feature the
ASA Late Models and the Street Stocks. The fallen heroes of that somber day
nine years ago will be remembered during the evening.
The North-South Shootout, scheduled for November 5-6, also carries the title
John Blewett III Memorial in honor of the late New Jersey modified standout
who won the inaugural event in 2003 and repeated in 2005. It's a
non-sanctioned race which brings together the top touring and weekly racers
from tracks and series up and down the east coast with no points at stake,
just money and bragging rights. Burt Myers, made nationally famous by the
"Madhouse" reality TV show filmed at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem,
N.C., is the two-time defending race winner in the premier division.
Concord Motor Speedway is a half-mile track located about ten miles south of
Charlotte Motor Speedway. Its most famous feature is a fearsome,
full-throttle dogleg in the back straight. Since neither open wheel division
races there regularly, it is a genuine neutral site for the Shootout.
"We're delighted that Shangri-La II has been granted North-South Shootout
qualifiers in both open wheel divisions," said track manager Amy Stilson,
adding "In their own ways, Shangri-La II and Concord are both unique
challenges and real driver's tracks, so our representatives should be strong
contenders there in November."
"When you combine that attraction with the end of the point season here at
Shangri-La II, it should produce a spectacular event," Stilson concluded.
Pit gates open at Shangri-La II on Sept. 11 at 4:00 p.m., with practice at
5:30 and the first green flag at 7:00 p.m. For more information, visit
