Exciting
Indoor Auto Racing returns to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence for a
one-day show this year on Saturday, February 5th. Tickets for the event,
which features the exciting Three Quarter Midgets, go on sale Friday, Nov.
12, at 10 am at all Ticketmaster locations and the Dunkin' Donut Center box
office.
“We are extremely pleased to be returning to Providence and the Dunkin’
Donuts Center again,” said event organizer Len Sammons. “Our reception there
from drivers, fans and staff at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in the past has
been incredible and we can’t wait to return for this action packed one-day
show.”
The 2nd annual Coffee Cup will be held on the eve of the Super Bowl.
The TQ-Midgets, which average speeds in excess of 70 mph, will headline the
program with a 50-lap feature event and an added payoff.
Mike Stefanik is the defending Coffee Cup champion. Stefanik of Coventry,
R.I., won a thrilling event last March. Christopher won the return of
sanctioned racing to Rhode Island on March 7, 2009.
The exciting Senior Champ Kart racing will be on the under card.
A full complement of practice, qualifying and A-Main action will fill the
single-day card.
Stefanik, a regular competitor in the asphalt Modified division, is one of
the favorites heading into the indoor race.
“These cars are so quick and things happen so fast,” Stefanik said. “You
have to be aggressive right, while at the same time remain patient because
you have to be around at the end of the race.”
Canadian driver Mike Lichty won the Friday night preliminary event in March,
which preceded Stefanik’s win in the Coffee Cup.
Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn., and Mike Iles of Medford, N.J., were
victorious TQ-Midget action in December of ’09 when sanctioned auto racing
first returned to Rhode Island in more than 50 years.
Iles won the 20-lap main event on Dec. 4, while Christopher captured the big
prize by winning the 30-lap race on Dec. 5.
Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y., and Ryan Kendall of East Greensbush,
N.Y., shared the Champ Kart feature events in March.
Chris Dailey of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., won both Champ Kart events in 2009.
Several national drivers including David Reutimann, a competitor on the
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, and Davey Hamilton, a multi-time Indianapolis 500
starter, were part of the Coffee Cup in March.
Details about the Coffee Cup program will be released in the forthcoming
weeks.
The Coffee Cup will follow the indoor Gambler’s Classic weekend at Boardwalk
Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. which will be held on January 28th and 29th.
Tickets for both events, which make great Christmas presents, can be
purchased at all Ticketmaster locations and at the box offices. Group rates
are available.
Information on the event will be available at
www.aarn.com or by
calling 609-888-3618. |
