One of my favorite Christmas specials is “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” I like
it because Charles Schultz chooses to quote the story of Christmas found in
the Gospel of Luke. I still can see Linus reading the story and the
attention of all being drawn to God’s word. I have put the story here, take
time and read it this Christmas season. Sit down with your friends and
family and truly embrace the gift that God sent to us. Greetings in the name
of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Luke 2: 1-20, NIV
1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be
taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took
place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to his own
town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to
Bethlehem the town of David , because he belonged to the house and line of
David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married
to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there,
the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her
firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths
and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch
over their flocks at night.
9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone
around them, and they were terrified.
10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of
great joy that will be for all the people.
11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ
the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you:
You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,
praising God and saying,
14 "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to
one another,
"Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord
has told us about."
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was
lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him,
they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18
and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But
Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The
shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had
heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
This passage helps us understand
the fulfillment of the promise that God gave Israel , a Savior. So
significant was the birth of Christ that it split time. We stopped counting
backward and started counting forward. BC and AD separate our calendar. Not
taught in the Bible but decided on by man to reflect a turning point in
world history, the birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ. BC means “before Christ”, AD is from the Latin phrase “anno domini”
which means “in the year of our Lord”. So significant was the birth of
Christ man decided to change the way they recorded history.
Another unknown author contributed this for our consideration;
One Solitary Life
Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the
child of a peasant woman.
He grew up in another village.
He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty.
Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home.
He never wrote a book.
He never held an office.
He never had a family.
He never went to college.
He never put His foot inside a big city.
He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born.
He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness.
He had no credentials but Himself.
While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against
him.
His friends ran away.
One of them denied Him.
He was turned over to His enemies.
He went through the mockery of a trial.
He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves.
While He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of
property He
had on earth – His coat.
When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity
of a friend.
Twenty long centuries have come and
gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the
column of progress. I am far within the mark when I say that all the Armies
that ever marched, all the Navy’s that were ever built; all the Parliaments
that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not
affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that ONE
SOLITARY LIFE!
Consider that one solitary life that was given to you for the
salvation of your soul. Don’t let the significance of the birth of Christ
pass you by. This holiday season look to the one who gave his life for you,
rejoice in his love, find the hope, peace and joy that he offers.
Acknowledge him in all that you do and he will guide you along the right
path.
John 3:16-17;
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to
save the world through him.
God Bless
You and Merry Christmas.
THOUGHTS FROM THE ROAD
MOTORSPORTS LINEUP SET - It
took a little longer than usual this year to determine the make up the cars
in our booth at Motorsports 2012. We think we have a great lineup in place
that will attract many. So, without further ado;
We are proud to announce that along with one of our RWJM Pace Cars
the Champions and runner ups from the Whelen Modified Tour and the Whelen
Southern Modified Tour will complete the display. Four of the best Mod
drivers, North and South; Ronnie Silk, Todd Szegedy, George Brunnhoelzl III
and Andy Seuss will also be present to sign autographs for you. This will
surly be a great opportunity to have four of the drivers of open wheel
modifieds available to you sporting four NASCAR Championship rings between
them.
Put the dates on your calendar, January 20, 21 and 22, 2012 and
make plans to see us at Greater Philadelphia Expo Center At Oaks for
Motorsports 2012.
BANQUETS IN CHARLOTTE DON’T DISAPPOINT - NASCAR knows how to
celebrate and honor their champions. Every champion I spoke too shared how
great it felt to be a part of the celebration. The weekend events also
allowed many drivers from across the continent to meet and share their
experiences.
Seeing the championship cars lined up in the great hall surrounded
by Glory Road in the NASCAR Hall of Fame was neat. I am sure it made each
champion feel special.
A funny thing happened on our way through the Hall, we were joined
by a former Cup champion, Bill Elliot. Imagine those who came to the Hall
that day to see the history only to find one of the drivers whose car sits
on Glory Road right there with them. Again NASCAR has the most approachable
stars of any of the major league sports. Bill didn’t run and hide, walk away
from any request and looked very comfortable among the fans. I guess that is
what made him the most popular driver for 17 years. The apple didn’t fall
far from the tree as his son Chase won the same award as a driver on the K&N
Pro Series East this year.
After many awards, celebrations and diners it is time to sit back,
take a break and prepare for the Holidays. Lynda and I have a tree to
decorate, cookies to bake, and shopping to do. We may even take a shot at
building some gingerbread houses.
I encourage you to put your preparation for the holidays on the
front burner and let racing take a back seat for a few weeks. Next year will
be here soon enough. Relax and enjoy this holiday season, Merry Christmas.
