The
North-South Shootout TM has long been considered a throwback to the golden
age of racing. The annual event is reminiscent of an era when hard-nosed
Modified racers traveled up-and-down the Northeast to vie for dominance
among the sport’s best. It is a heritage that competitors and fans alike are
immensely proud.
Back in those days the winning driver climbed from the car in victory lane
to the cheers of the crowd; met with congratulations from a trophy queen.
Today, that aspect of racing is all but a memory up North; however, it is a
tradition that has not been lost entirely in Southern racing.
This week Caraway Speedway announced that it would host a “Miss North-South
Shootout” Contest for the 9th Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South
Shootout presented in memory of Charles Kepley.
The winner will be named Miss North- South Shootout and will be among the
first to congratulate all winners during the Shootout. She will present all
trophies in victory lane on November 4&5. The duties of the reigning queen
will also include participation in the pit party autograph session on
Saturday and attendance at all corporate sponsor events at the Speedway
during the weekend.
For consideration, candidates must submit a close-up headshot, a full-body
photo, along with a brief bio and explanation of why they deserve to be Miss
North-South Shootout. Applications will be accepted via email at
carawayspeedway@embarqmail.com. The email should also include name,
age, address and phone numbers. The deadline for entries is October 20,
2011.
A panel of judges named by Caraway Speedway will select the winner from
photos submitted.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible. The winner
must be present at Caraway Speedway on November 4&5, 2011 and be able to
provide your own transportation and accommodations. Winner will receive
complimentary credentials for the weekend.
The Miss North-South Shootout contest is another way for the devoted fans of
Modified racing and the North-South Shootout to take an active role in the
prestigious event.
