SANTOS EARNS GRANITE STATE CLASSIC POLE
Sixth Career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Pole, First At New Hampshire
Bobby Santos crossed another track off his list when he earned the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Friday in advance of the Granite State Classic.

Santos, from Franklin, Mass., laid down a fast lap of 29.858 seconds (127.564 mph) for his sixth career Coors Light Pole Award and second of the 2011 season. It marked the first of his six at the 1.058-mile New Hampshire oval.

Santos was also the fastest of the 31 cars across two practice sessions earlier in the day. He’ll be looking for his first New Hampshire win on Saturday.

Eric Beers, who led the field in Friday’s first practice, qualified alongside Santos in the front row with a fast lap of 29.908 (127.351). Todd Szegedy, the official winner of the Whelen Modified Tour’s first race at New Hampshire on July 16, was third-fastest in qualifying at 29.971 (127.083).

Justin Bonsignore and Rowan Pennink rounded out the top five qualifiers.

Season points leader Ron Silk, who is one tally ahead of Silk entering Saturday’s race, qualified 13th at 30.205 (126.794).

The Granite State Classic is set to take the green flag on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. Live race audio will be streamed at www.nascarhometracks.com.
