PREECE EARNS THOMPSON WORLD SERIES POLE
Sixth Career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Pole
Ryan Preece earned the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Brewing Saturday for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season finale Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson International Speedway.

For Preece, from Berlin, Conn., it marked the second pole in a row in Whelen Modified Tour events at the .625-mile speedway. Just a few days shy of his 21st birthday, Preece also earned the pole in the Tour’s last visit to Thompson on Sept. 11. The fast lap of 18.634 seconds (120.747 mph) earned Preece his sixth career pole overall.

September Thompson race winner Doug Coby qualified second at 18.655 (120.611) and will start alongside Preece in the front row for Sunday’s 150-lap event. Three-time defending Sunoco World Series winner Ted Christopher qualified third at 18.681 (120.443).

Todd Szegedy, who trails Ron Silk by 54 points entering the finale, qualified fourth. The rest of the top 10 qualifiers include Bobby Santos, Timmy Solomito, Erick Rudolph, championship leader Silk, Eric Goodale and Eric Beers.

The 16-race 2011 Whelen Modified Tour schedule will conclude – and a champion will be crowned – on Sunday. The Sunoco World Series is set to take the green flag at approximately 3:30 p.m.
