DEYO JOINS NASCAR WHELEN SOUTHERN MODIFIED TOUR STAFF
Will Serve as the Tour’s Technical Director

NASCAR announced today that Paul Deyo has been named the technical director for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

Deyo, 63, has been a part of NASCAR racing for more than two decades as a crew chief and car owner, and most recently served as technical director at Hickory Motor Speedway. Deyo has also worked in the same capacity at Tri-County Motor Speedway and the Southeast Limited Late Model Touring Series.

The veteran official is excited about reaching one of his career goals.

“One of my goals in racing was to work for NASCAR and I am so excited about finally reaching it,” Deyo said. “I have worked with [NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Director] Sherry Clifton before and I appreciate the opportunity she and NASCAR have given me with this position.”

A retired computer engineer from Duke Energy and a United States Air Force veteran that served in Vietnam, Deyo resides in Newton, N.C., with his wife, Rebecca. Deyo will be the second new member of the staff joining Ronnie Rice, who was named race director earlier this year.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will kick off the 2011 season with the Spring Fling 150 on Sunday, March 13 at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C.
