STAFFORD
MOTOR SPEEDWAY CARQUEST
CHAMPIONS FOR CHARITIES DRIVER SPOTLIGHT:
BOB POTTER |
Stafford
Motor Speedway has again lined up an impressive
field of current and former open wheel champions for
its CARQUEST Champions For Charities Event as part
of CARQUEST Super Saturday on June 30th. During the
coming weeks, SMS will offer a profile on each of
its championship winning drivers and the charity
they will be racing for. This week's CARQUEST
Champions For Charities spotlight falls on Bob
Potter, the 5-time Stafford SK Modified® Champion,
and he will be racing to raise funds for Compassion
for Cats of New London County.
"I like cats and this is a great organization," said
Potter. "They take stray and abandoned cats and give
them shots, they spay and neuter the cats, and they
provide a home for the cats until they can find an
owner to adopt the cats out to. Last year, they
adopted out about 75 cats, and everyone there is a
volunteer. It’s really awesome what they do for the
cats and they can certainly use the money that we’re
raising for them.”
While Potter is one of the most experienced drivers
in the CARQUEST Champions For Charities field with 5
Stafford track titles and 24 career feature wins, he
was a rookie last year in the Senior Outlaw karts on
Stafford’s mini-mile.
“I’m really looking forward to the race, it was so
much fun last year,” said Potter. “It was a pretty
bumpy ride and I remember I said to David Arute ‘You
need to tell your dad to repave that third and
fourth corner.’ It was a new experience for me and
it was a little hairy with how you have to drive the
turns. I wish we could have raced on the big track,
but those karts would probably look they’re lost on
the big track. But this race is for charity and it’s
all about helping out and I love to be able to help
people out as much as I can.”
The CARQUEST Champions For Charities feature event
won’t be the only time that Potter will be hitting
the Stafford asphalt this season. Fans will have the
opportunity to not only watch Potter speed around
the half-mile once again in a modified, but they can
actually ride in the passenger seat next to Potter
thanks to Stafford’s new 2-seat modified that made
its debut during CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler
Weekend with Cathy Lent as the first ride along
participant.
“Driving that car, it made my day,” said Potter. “I
have to thank Mark and Lisa Arute for giving me the
opportunity todrive the 2-seater. I was so happy, it
felt like I was in another world. We were turning
some pretty quick lap times. It was as much fun for
me to drive the car as it was for Cathy to get the
ride in the car with me. She told me she would never
forget that ride for the rest of her life. It was a
lot of fun and that’s what it’s all about.”
Compassion For Cats of New London Inc. is a
charitable, 501c3 organization dedicated to saving
the lives of abandoned, abused and neglected
animals, getting them their necessary medical care
and adopting them into responsible, loving homes.
