Being out of touch for a week is good, but it takes a
while to get back in the swing of things. Traveling overseas was a new
experience for me and the adjustment coming back has proven challenging. It
is good to be back and I am getting back into the swing of things. Greetings
in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I wanted to thank Rev. Ray for filling in last week and also Bobby
Somers for sharing his thoughts this week. It is good to have a great crew
behind you to lend a hand. As I read Bobby’s comments this week it helps us
realize that we no matter how great we think we are there is a reason for us
to be humble before God. Read along as Bobby shares this week with us.
I wanted to share a story that Vinetta and I came about at a track.
Last season we approached a new driver and introduced ourselves. We
explained all about RWJM and spent some time talking and getting to know
each other. We found out a little about this driver during our conversation.
When we asked if the driver would like prayer before going out on the track,
the driver replied “Will it get me a first place”?
Well I replied that is not for me to say, that is up to Jesus, if
he wants you to finish first, last or any where in between it’s really up to
him. No matter what the finish there will be something to learn from the
experience. The driver said he was all set.
I guess this is a good example of us putting what we want ahead of
what we might need. We decide what is best for us and ask God for it.
Instead we should call on Jesus to provide what we need. We always think
winning is the best result, when some other finish may be what we need.
Did you ever think that while your open trailer and limited
resources may not add up to those enclosed trailers that Jesus has provided
for you to race? Every opportunity we have, big or small is provided for us.
How about the time you left late, trying to get to the race track
and you come upon an accident on the highway, holding you up in traffic. The
thought comes to mind that you may have been the accident if you didn’t get
held up in the shop. Don’t discount the fact that Jesus provided for your
safety.
Or what about the time you avoided the wreck on the track and you
made it through. You wonder out loud “wow how did I get through that?” You
ask your crew chief hoping that he had provided you some guidance. Many
times we don’t give credit where credit is due. Who do you think guided you
through that wreck?
Many times we think life is about things; we want the toys, the
fancy haulers, big screen TV and anything we dream about. We think we
deserve them. But the real meaning in life comes from Jesus and spending
time with him.
We need to do more communicating with Jesus. Start with a simple 10
minutes to begin the day. We don’t think we have the time. We hurry to get
ready for work, we say good bye to our spouses and kids and off to work we
go! How much better will the day go if we have an idea what God would like
us to do that day?
We need a little communication with Christ, have a conversation
with him on the way to work, to the track, at the office. You don’t need a
cell phone, fax machine, twitter or Facebook. If you seek him out and start
a conversation he will listen and he will provide. It’s the beginning of an
incredible setup for your life and for your family. Take time to Stop, Pray
and Listen.
One of my favorite verses in the Bible,
Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will
be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened
to you.
Some time at the track, I will share my
testimony with you, what it was like chasing my wants and desires and
missing out on that relationship with Christ. I gave up my (EGO) Edging God
Out!
He provided what was best for me and he can do the same for you!
God Bless! Hope all is well and see you soon at a track.
Thanks Bobby for that word and reminding us not to edge God out of
our lives. He wants to have a real and personal relationship with each one
of us. So much so that Jesus gave his life for our sake.
THOUGHTS
FROM THE ROAD
RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY - With the entire
racing calendar in New England rained or snowed out it was pretty quiet. I
guess that is okay on a holiday weekend but the triple header, F1, Indy and
Charlotte on Television couldn’t replace the sounds and smell of live
racing.
We’ll get back to action on the Whelen Modified Tour June 7, let’s
hope for better weather.
BOWMAN GRAY FOR THE K&N - Rev. Dan is headed to
Winston-Salem for the annual visit to Bowman-Gray for the full fendered K&N
cars. Truth be told they don’t like this race very much, their cars end up
looking like modifieds. But the fans love it and as Tony Kanaan said in
Victory Lane at Indy, “It’s all about the fans.”
YELLOWSTONE DRAG STRIP - We don’t generally go in a straight
line, but when the local drag strip invites you out and asks you to have a
chapel service we responded. Steve Fowler, our Montana based Dirt Late Model
Chaplain, conducted the first service at Yellowstone Drag Strip in Acton, MT
last weekend and had over 25 in attendance. Great job Steve.
We are looking forward to some sunshine and better weather. I
enjoyed being a part of the SMS’s annual charity golf tournament, the Bill
Tamburro Jr Memorial Golf Tournament that Lisa Arute and her siblings have
put together to remember her brother Bill Tamburro Jr. This year they
supported Alzheimer’s Research and Pancreatic Cancer Research.
