MODIFIED SERIES READY FOR
FIRECRACKER 100 AT MONADNOCK |
Tradition
and a sizzling hot points battle highlight the
annual ‘Firecracker 100’ this Saturday, July 6, when
the Valenti Modified Racing Series rolls into
Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH, for the 10th
annual holiday 100-lap race.
The weekend’s event is the second of three scheduled
at the New Hampshire oval during the series 10th
anniversary season.
Tommy Barrett Jr, of Millis MA, and Louie Mechalides
of Tyngsboro, MA, sit atop the point standings tied
at 162 points heading to Monadnock. Pennsylvania hot
shoe Rowan Pennink is currently third two points
back. All three top point men have visited victory
lane this season. Pennink won at Monadnock in April.
Local favorites Jim Boniface, of Winchester, the
2006 ‘Firecracker 100’ winner, Rob Goodenough, of
Swanzey, NH, and Todd Patnode, of Richmond, NH, are
expected to compete.
40-year veteran Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT, a
Monadnock favorite, will enter Saturday’s program.
23-year-old Steve Masse, of Bellingham, MA, will
look to pick up his second win of the season.
Todd Owen, of Somers, CT, will also compete at
Monadnock.
Reigning champion and 2011 Firecracker winner Jon
McKennedy of E. Chelmsford, MA, is expected.
Todd Szegedy, a surprise visitor last season, won
his first VMRS race at the Monadnock holiday event.
Qualifying races begin at 5:00 PM. |
