The Chrome Horn - Valenti Modified Racing Series

Tradition and a sizzling hot points battle highlight the annual ‘Firecracker 100’ this Saturday, July 6, when the Valenti Modified Racing Series rolls into Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, NH, for the 10th annual holiday 100-lap race.

The weekend’s event is the second of three scheduled at the New Hampshire oval during the series 10th anniversary season.

Tommy Barrett Jr, of Millis MA, and Louie Mechalides of Tyngsboro, MA, sit atop the point standings tied at 162 points heading to Monadnock. Pennsylvania hot shoe Rowan Pennink is currently third two points back. All three top point men have visited victory lane this season. Pennink won at Monadnock in April.

Local favorites Jim Boniface, of Winchester, the 2006 ‘Firecracker 100’ winner, Rob Goodenough, of Swanzey, NH, and Todd Patnode, of Richmond, NH, are expected to compete.

40-year veteran Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT, a Monadnock favorite, will enter Saturday’s program. 23-year-old Steve Masse, of Bellingham, MA, will look to pick up his second win of the season.
Todd Owen, of Somers, CT, will also compete at Monadnock.

Reigning champion and 2011 Firecracker winner Jon McKennedy of E. Chelmsford, MA, is expected.

Todd Szegedy, a surprise visitor last season, won his first VMRS race at the Monadnock holiday event.

Qualifying races begin at 5:00 PM.
