TAKES VALENTI AUTO MALL FINALE AT THOMPSON |
Keith
Rocco, of Meriden, CT, dominated Saturday night’s
Valenti Modified Racing Series event at Thompson
Speedway when he garnered the ‘Valenti Auto Mall 75’
season finale for his second win this season and his
third career victory.
Rocco started third in a field of 31 cars took the
top spot on the second lap and was never headed.
“When we took the lead the guys put a lot of
pressure on me and I had to work my car pretty hard.
I knew Barrett (Tommy) was saving it right to the
end. Want to thank this team, owners John and Maina
Rufrano, they give me an awesome car.”
Ted Christopher, of Plainville, CT, provided
pressure in the early going with Barrett, of Millis,
MA, and newly crowned VMRS Champion Rowan Pennink of
Huntingdon, Valley, PA, chasing the winner in the
late stages.
Pennink settled for second, Barrett third, Richard
Savary, of Canton, MA, fourth, and Christopher
fifth.
Sixth through tenth were, Dave Etheridge, Jon
McKennedy, Ryan Preece, Louie Mechalides, and Brad
Van Houton.
Rocco’s three series wins have been at Waterford,
Stafford, and Thompson Speedways.
Pennink, Keith Rocco, and Savary won qualifying
races.
34 cars entered the season finale with 31 cars
starting the main event.
Speedway management announced on Sunday that the
VMRS will return next season with two shows
scheduled on Thursday May 29th with a Sunday, June
1, rain date. Also a return to World Series weekend
is scheduled.
Next up is the Banquet of Champions at November
23rd, at the Executive Court Banquet Facility at
Best Western Hotel in Manchester, NH. |
