Among
the list of favorites for the $60,000 plus, 125-lap,
11th Annual John Blewett III North-South Shootout is
transplanted Long Island driver George Brunnhoelzl
III.
The reigning NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour
Champion will clinch another title Thursday at
Charlotte Motor Speedway before preparing for the
Shootout, which pays a minimum of $6,000 to win on
November 9th at Caraway (N.C.) Speedway.
"We look forward to it," Brunnhoelzl said. "It's a
real big event. It should be a good race for the
fans. I hope we get a good car turnout. It pays real
well. It's all around a good race so hopefully we
will get a lot of fans to come out.
"I like that it's a (tire) change event so you can
do your own strategy on when you want to come in. It
will definitely put a little mix into it. You just
have to keep track of how many tires you get."
Teams will be allowed to change two tires during the
race, likely during a mid-race yellow flag pit stop,
unlike the halfway red flag break used in NWSMT
events. Adding that equation to the race opens up
the possibility of an upset winner, but history will
say otherwise.
In the first ten events, the last two being held at
Caraway, race winners include Ryan Preece, Matt
Hirschman, Burt Myers, John Blewett III and Donny
Lia. Hirschman has won the race four times.
Town and Country Ford of Charlotte (N.C.) has just
signed on as an associate sponsor of the race. Town
and Country Ford has both new and used cars for sale
so check out www.townandcountryford.com if you are
in the market for a car in the Charlotte area.
The race weekend begins on Wednesday with optional
hauler parking and registration. Thursday includes
an alternating practice session from noon to 6:00 PM
for all divisions.
On Friday qualifying for all divisions begins at
5:00 PM, with the main event, the 11th annual John
Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout capping
the race events at around 4:00 PM on Saturday. A
Sunday rain date is in place if needed.
