RACE OF CHAMPIONS TOUR OPENS
AT CHEMUNG SPEEDROME |
 The
2013 Race of Champions Modified tour invades John White’s Chemung
Speedrome on Sunday afternoon, May 5th. This traditional Chemung
Speedrome event has been moved to the spring opener on Sunday, May
5th. Many teams are expected to take advantage of a 1:00 p.m.
practice session on Saturday, May 4th.
The 75 lap Race of Champions event on the tight 3/8 mile oval
demands that the talented Modified pilots to use their skill and
patience to capture victory. Last year’s Chemung event showcased
tour regulars Matt Hirschman, Kyle Ebersole, Chuck Hossfeld, Erick
Rudolph and Brian DeFebo battling hard to earn top five finishes.
Kyle Ebersole fought his way from mid-pack to second place, earning
the hard charger award. Chemung area drivers showed well, with JR
Kent, Daren Scherer, and TJ Potrzebowski earning top ten finishes.
Matt Hirschman added winner points from Chemung to lead his charge
to his fifth RoC Championship in 2012.
The list of past champions certainly is fitting to the name of the
Race of Champions Modified Tour. George Kent’s six titles are
followed by Hirschman’s five. Both J.R. Kent and Chuck Hossfeld have
two tour championships each accounting fifteen of the nineteen years
of the series. Fan favorites Charlie Rudolph, Tony Hanbury, Earl
Paules and Pete Brittain have also earned the title.
Chemung Speedrome was originally opened by the Bodine family in 1951
as a ¼ mile dirt oval. In the late 1990’s, the speedway received a
facelift as a modern 3/8 mile asphalt oval. The first race on this
new configuration was in year 2000. Now featuring aluminum seating
for 3,000 and powerful Musco lighting, guests will find clean and
modern amenities for their comfort and enjoyment. Check out

Sunday, May 5th is the date to remember. Admission gates will open
at 12:00 noon. Practice will begin at 1:00 p.m., and racing will
start promptly at 2:15 p.m. Support divisions will include the Super
Stocks, 4-Cylinder Stocks, and INEX Legends. Weekly NASCAR
sanctioned racing will start on Friday, May 10th and continue on
Friday evenings throughout the 2013 season.
Chemung’s sister speedway, Spencer Speedway in Williamson, NY, will
hold their RoC tour show on Friday, June 7th.
