NEWMAN DOUBLES UP WITH TOP MODIFIED QUALIFYING EFFORT
AT NEW HAMPSHIRE
Follows Sprint Cup Series Pole With Fifth Career Whelen Modified Tour Award

In a span of 45 minutes, Ryan Newman left no doubt that he was the fastest man at the track Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

On the heels of his record seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole at the “Magic Mile,” Newman posted his fourth NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Coors Light Pole Award at the track in qualifying for Saturday’s F.W. Webb 100.

Newman, from South Bend, Ind., toured the 1.058-mile oval with a fast lap of 29.475 seconds (129.221 mph) for the fifth overall Whelen Modified Tour pole. Saturday will be his 14th career appearance on the tour.

Two-time New Hampshire winner Donny Lia will join Newman on the front row thanks to a fast lap of 29.508 (129.077) while championship points leader Ryan Preece was third-fastest at 29.528 (128.989).

Todd Szegedy, Bobby Santos, Doug Coby, Mike Stefanik, Ted Christopher, Rowan Pennink and Ron Silk brought home the top 10 in the qualifying session.

Newman will vie for his third Whelen Modified Tour win at New Hampshire on Saturday after he swept the two events there during the 2011 season.

Preece enters Saturday with a 39-point edge on Doug Coby with three races to go. While Preece has yet to win in 14 previous races in Loudon, Coby has come out victorious in the last two Whelen Modified Tour events there, including this past July.

The F.W. Webb 100 will be carried live on Saturday by Fox Sports 2. Coverage begins at 12 p.m., with green flag set for 12:15 p.m.
