Racing
is stressful. Many times we lose control of the way we respond over little
things that get in our way. I encourage you to decide to make a difference
when you head to the track this year. Greetings in the name of our Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
We all have our breaking point. For some of us it comes all too soon. I
have noticed recently that we are less and less patient. We get frustrated
when things don't happen when we think they should. I think it is a result
of the society we live in. We have this need to have everything now.
Racing doesn't help. We are always trying to do more with less and as
quick as we can. Race day is a race against the clock. Then if something
goes wrong you are behind the eight ball all day long. I was having one of
those days when I received this devotion. I think it speaks to our need to
refocus on what is truly important in life.
Today I Will Make A Difference,
By Max Lucado
“Today I will make a difference. I will begin by controlling my thoughts.
A person is the product of his thoughts. I want to be happy and hopeful.
Therefore, I will have thoughts that are happy and hopeful. I refuse to be
victimized by my circumstances. I will not let petty inconveniences such as
stoplights, long lines, and traffic jams be my masters. I will avoid
negativism and gossip. Optimism will be my companion, and victory will be my
hallmark. Today I will make a difference.
I will be grateful for the twenty-four hours that are before me. Time is a
precious commodity. I refuse to allow what little time I have to be
contaminated by self-pity, anxiety, or boredom. I will face this day with
the joy of a child and the courage of a giant. I will drink each minute as
though it is my last. When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever. While
it is here, I will use it for loving and giving. Today I will make a
difference.
I will not let past failures haunt me. Even though my life is scarred with
mistakes, I refuse to rummage through my trash heap of failures. I will
admit them. I will correct them. I will press on. Victoriously. No failure
is fatal. It's OK to stumble... . I will get up. It's OK to fail... I will
rise again. Today I will make a difference.
I will spend time with those I love. My spouse, my children, my family. A
man can own the world but be poor for the lack of love. A man can own
nothing and yet be wealthy in relationships. Today I will spend at least
five minutes with the significant people in my world. Five quality minutes
of talking or hugging or thanking or listening. Five undiluted minutes with
my mate, children, and friends.
Today I will make a difference.”
Max Lucado points out a truth that each of us
needs to understand. We do not have control over what happens each day, but
we have control over the way we respond. We can respond in a way that honors
God or we give in to our selfish desires.
“I will not let petty
inconveniences such as stoplights, long lines, and traffic jams be my
masters.”
“I refuse to allow what little time I have to be contaminated by self-pity,
anxiety, or boredom.”
“Even though my life is scarred with mistakes, I refuse to rummage through
my trash heap of failure. I will admit them. I will correct them. I will
press on. Victoriously!”
If you read the driver’s prayer we hand out it
covers the topic.
“We ask that Your Spirit will
guide our actions and that we would respond in a way that honors You.”
Making a difference in the lives of others
means we need to set ourselves aside; sacrifice, and put their needs ahead
of ours. This is not something that comes easy to us. We tend to look out
for our own needs before we consider others. In order to make a difference
in the lives of others we need to reverse that.
Let me share with you some guidance we receive from God’s Word;
Galatians
5:22-26; But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our
lives: love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no
law against these things!
Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of
their sinful nature to his cross
and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow
the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one
another.
Decide today to respond differently. Break out
of the chains that life puts on us and make a difference.
Let us not become conceited, or
provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
Let us commit to make a difference!
THOUGHTS FROM THE ROAD
CATCHING
UP - I am sure many of you are burning the midnight oil to put the final
preparations for opening day. The weather is not cooperating one bit. It is
difficult to get excited for opening day when there is still a foot of snow
on the ground.
The Whelen Southern Modified Tour got things started with a great crowd
at Caraway. New Hampshire native Andy Seuss dominated winning the pole and
the race, wire to wire. I can’t wait to hear the roar of the mighty
Modifieds.
BRISTOL BOUND - We head to Bristol this week, hoping the snow
melts that fell there a few days ago and the weather warms up. But really
does it matter, it is Bristol !
This year we are bringing Marine Veteran Dan Postemski with us. Dan did
two tours in Iraq including the battle of Fallujah. The results of war are
difficult to understand. Things may look fine on the outside but the effects
are there. We are honored to have this veteran serve alongside us.
