SEEKONK
SPEEDWAY READY TO KICK OFF 2014 SEASON |
With
the long offseason coming to a close on the local
racing scene, Seekonk Speedway is ready to kick of
their 69th season with a 2 day event.
Saturday, May 3rd will be the annual Providence Auto
Body Car Show & Go. Starting a 9am, custom cars,
trucks and motorcycles will be on display for all to
see, with the Mass Cruisers on hand. At 1, the cars
are invited to journey onto the 1/3 mile oval for
the burn out drags.
Along with the car show, the first automotive swap
meet of the season will be open to the public for
those looking for that certain something for their
ride. There will also be a car corral for cars for
sale.
While all of this is going on, the track will be
full of action as the stars and cars will be in full
mode during their final practice session before
kicking the racing season off on Sunday. All of the
action on Saturday is free admission.
On Sunday, the 69th racing season goes into high
gear with the Sims Spring Kickoff Classic. The
Valenti Auto Group Modified Racing Series will make
their first of 3 appearances at the Action Track of
the East with a 100 lap main event. This is their
third race of the season. Defending series champion
Rowan Pennink is coming off a win at Monadnock
speedway in their most recent event, and will be
looking for his first win at Seekonk. He will have
to hold off Steve Masse, Chris Pasteryak, Todd
Szegedy, Norm Wrenn, Todd Annarummo and many others
in the Spring Classic.
The ARC Pro Stocks will kick off the ARC regular
season with a 40 lap feature. Defending champion
Dave Darling will have his hands full dealing with
the return of Rick Martin and Todd Annarummo, to go
along with the challenges of 6 time champion Fred
Astle, Dick Houlihan, Tom Scully Jr and the rest of
the field.
The Late Models, Street Stocks and Sport Trucks will
also compete in the 5 division card. The racing
starts at 1pm for the 69th season opener. General
admission is just $25.00 for adults. Be sure to
catch the action, and don’t forget to bring a
friend.
