2015 RACE
OF CHAMPIONS ASPHALT MODIFIED TOUR
SCHEDULE 14 RACES STRONG
Opener Set For
April At The Lancaster National Speedway |
The
Sunoco Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour Schedule has been
released and it certainly looks impressive with a minimum of 14 race
dates slated for the 2015 campaign. The opening day race is
scheduled for Sunday, April 19th at the Lancaster National Speedway.
This will be the first of four dates at the popular western, New
York oval. The tour title will be decided on Sunday, October 4th
with the annual “Fall Brawl” at the Shangri La II Motor Speedway.
Defending Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour Champion Chuck
Hossfeld certainly won’t be disappointed with four races at the
speedway where he started his career. The Lancaster National
Speedway has a new management team in place for the 2015 racing
season with many familiar faces from the past stepping up to help
move the historic speedway forward next season. Race of Champions
Asphalt Modified Tour Director Andrew Harpell commented, “We are all
about our historical past with our RoC events, the history at
Lancaster with Modified racing is hard to replicate and the events
we run there are traditionally some of the most exciting on the
series.”
The Chemung Speedrome will host two RoC events again next season.
The first will take place on Sunday, May 3rd and will serve as the
second event of the season on the tour. The second event will be
Saturday, August 8th the same weekend that the NASCAR cup series is
down the road at the Watkins Glen International Speedway.
Oswego Speedway will once again be the site of three RoC Tour events
in 2015 including the 65th running of the Sunoco Race of Champions
Modified 200 on Saturday, September 19th. Oswego Speedway will play
host to the Richie Evans Memorial on Saturday, May 9th and the tour
will return on Friday, September 4th as part of the historic
“Classic Weekend”.
The Lancaster National Speedway dates will include the April 19th
opener, a return to an old traditional event on Thursday, June 25th
– Saturday, August 25th with the Tommy/Tony Memorial event and the
“U.S Open” on Sunday, September 27th.
The “Concrete Castle” Shangri La II Motor Speedway will host two
events including the tour finale as part of the “Fall Brawl” Weekend
on Sunday, October 4th. A new date this year will see the tour
running on Sunday, May 24th part of a big Memorial Day Weekend event
that the speedway is planning. The RoC events at the Shangri La II
Motor Speedway have been outstanding in years past.
Spencer Speedway, just outside of Rochester, New York is another
facility with an outstanding Modified history. This year the popular
facility will host two events. Friday, June 6th and Friday, July
24th will be the dates of the wide open RoC Modifieds. The Spencer
races are always exciting with the teams pitting in the infield area
and fans being able to see all of the pit action as well as the high
speed on track excitement.
Once again the RoC Tour will return to the Holland Speedway for the
“Holland 100”. Last year Andy Jankowiak thrilled his local fans with
the upset victory. The layout of the Holland Speedway always makes
for outstanding racing with the RoC Modifieds. This year the tour
will make their stop on Saturday, July 11th.
Multi-time RoC Tour Champion Matt Hirschman commented on the 2015
schedule. “The schedule looks very strong and is spaced out well
throughout the summer. We are certainly excited about it.” Harpell
added, “We wanted to get out our dates with our traditional track
partners and there is a very good possibility we may add another
date outside of our current schedule. Any additions would happen
within the next two weeks.”
