ALL SYSTEMS A GO FOR 65TH SUNOCO RACE OF CHAMPIONS
WEEKEND THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AT THE CHEMUNG SPEEDROME |
All
systems are a go for the 65th running of the Sunoco Race of
Champions Weekend this Saturday and Sunday at the Chemung Speedrome.
The Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 will take center stage on
Sunday with racing set to begin at 2:15 p.m. Several former race
champions will be returning for this year’s event.
After an early week forecast that cast some doubt on the race
weekend, the forecast has changed dramatically for the better. Both
this Saturday and Sunday look very good weather wise with Sunday
completely dry with temperatures expected to be in the lower 60’s.
A number of former Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 race
winners are expected to contend for this year’s title. Defending
race winner Chuck Hossfeld will return as he is also chasing back to
back Modified 200 winner Matt Hirschman in the 2015 Tour Point
Championship. This Sunday will decide the championship between the
long time rivals.
Other former Modified 200 race winner T.J. Potrzebowski will be
looking to garner his second win in this event in front of the home
town crowd. Potrzebowski from Elmira was the 2006 race winner at the
Oswego Speedway and would like nothing more than to get the job done
in front of the home town fans. Zane Zeiner, the 2011 race winner is
expected to make his return to the Chemung Speedrome in hopes of
becoming a two-time winner.
Four time Sunoco Race of Champions Modified 200 race winner George
Kent from Horseheads, NY is also working on securing a ride for this
Sundays event. He is expected to try and win his fifth and record
breaking Modified 200 victory.
On Saturday the racing program will get underway at 6 p.m. featuring
the RoC Sportsman in a 125 lap feature event. Jimmy Zacharias from
Candor, NY is the 2015 Chemung Speedrome and New York State NASCAR
Champion in the class. The INEX Legends cars will compete in their
richest paying event in the northeast this season on Saturday
presented by Northern PA Notary. A Four Cylinder Open and Bandolero
race program will complete the evening of racing.
Sunday racing will get underway at 2:15 p.m. with the Sunoco Race of
Champions Modified 200 the center of the action. The Super Stocks
will do battle in a 75 lap affair with a FWD Four Cylinder event
capping the day of racing.
