BURT MYERS CONTINUES HOT STREAK WITH CONCORD SPEEDWAY WIN

Myers continued his 2015 dominance of the KOMA
Unwind Modified Madness Series with his third win of
the season at Concord Speedway but it took a couple
of late race cautions that bunched the field to give
Myers the chance to chase down and overtake Gary
Putnam to “close the deal”.
Qualifying saw B. Myers brother, Jason, claim the
SUNOCO Race Fuel Pole Award over B. Myers making it
a Myers Brothers Racing front row. Spencer Davis and
Putnam filled row two and a pair of entries with the
new Automotive Specialists “sealed” engines in row
three. Caleb Holman and Jeremy Mayfield took
advantage of the new “Dorton Spec” engine rules to
claim those spots.
On the break, Burt Myers was able to squeeze brother
Jason to the bottom entering turn one to claim the
lead. On lap four Davis slipped past J. Myers and
Holman eased by on lap five to claim third spot.
Davis hounded B. Myers till a lap 7 pass saw the
Hillbilly Racing driver take the lead as the field
settled in till a lap eleven spin involving the cars
of Jimmy Wallace and Buddy Ellis. Both recovered and
continued in the event.
Hill lead on the restart but B. Myers took over at
the point on lap 13 to lead through a lap 30 spin by
Ellis and a three car dust up on lap 45 involving
Tom Buzze, Bobby Sheffield and Holman that ended the
night for all three cars.
A spin by Mayfield on lap 81 allowed most of the
field to make their mandatory pit stops and get
service. Putnam was the first off pit road followed
by Brian Dauzat. On the restart Dauzat slipped in
the marbles and slammed the turn one concrete. He
was OK but the night was over for the #97.
Putnam took command on the restart and pulled away
from B. Myers to lead the next 21 laps before Myers
took over the point with J. Myers, Putnam, Kyle
Bonsignore, Dan Speeney, Jamie Tomaino and Mayfield
making appearances in the top five. The field had
one last shot at Myers after a lap 121 crash when
Mike Norman cut a right front tire and hit the wall
coming out of the dog-leg ending his night.
In the end, Burt Myers was too strong for the field
and claimed his third KOMA Unwind Modified Madness
Series win of 2015 over J. Myers, Speeney,
Bonsignore and Mayfield. Putnam ended his night in
sixth followed by Tomaino, Jimmy Wallace, Davis and
Buddy Ellis.
The next event of the KOMA Mods is at Ace Speedway
in Altamahaw, NC on June 19th.
