RONNIE
WILLIAMS TO MAKE NASCAR WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR DEBUT
IN STAFFORD SPEEDWAY'S NAPA FALL FINAL WEEKEND |
Ronnie
Williams, Stafford Speedway’s winningest SK
Modified® driver of 2015, will team up with Ted
Christopher, Stafford’s all-time winningest SK
Modified® driver, to make his NASCAR Whelen Modified
Tour debut at Stafford Motor Speedway during the
track’s NAPA Fall Final Weekend on Oct. 3-4.
Williams has made a name for himself during the 2015
season with 6 SK Modified® feature wins, tying him
with Rowan Pennink for the most wins in the division
this season. Williams made his MRS debut earlier
this month at Stafford and he is excited about the
opportunity that lies ahead of him.
“I can’t put into words just how excited I am,” said
Williams. “Racing on the Whelen Modified Tour has
always been a dream for me and this is a great
opportunity for me. I can’t thank my Dad enough for
everything he’s done for me to get this opportunity
and all of our sponsors, NAPA of Tolland, Tick Free
Organic Tick Control, Critical Signs, Advice One,
and most of all Ted Christopher.”
Christopher will be driving for Our Motorsports at
the NAPA Fall Final, which opened up the
availability of his Tour car for Williams to use.
“Ronnie and his father had been looking for a car
for the Fall Final, and since I’m going to be
driving for Chris, I told them that I had a car
available for them to use,” said Christopher.
“Ronnie has proven himself to be pretty competitive
at Stafford and he’s won a lot of races this season,
so he definitely knows his way around Stafford. This
car is a car that I led a lot of laps at Loudon with
last race, it runs well at a lot of the races that
I’ve run with it, and I think Ronnie is going to do
real good with it. I’ve never raced against a car
that I own before, so that will be a new experience
for me.”
While Williams will have track knowledge on his
side, when he goes out on the track for Modified
Tour practice on Saturday, Oct. 3rd, it will be the
first time Williams has been behind the wheel of a
Tour car. Williams has also never time trialed
before, so he will have to strike a balance during
the hour and fifteen minute practice session of
getting a feel for the car under racing conditions
and what the car will need to cut a fast qualifying
lap.
“I would say that practice session is going to be
pretty important for me,” said Williams. “I’ve never
been in the car or driven the car, so everything is
going to be new to me,” said Williams. “It’s a home
track for me, so I know the track pretty well and
hopefully it won’t be too much of a nail biter
challenge. I had the little bit of experience with
the MRS car and I got a feeling for the difference
in speed between the SK and Tour type cars. I didn’t
think there would be that much difference between
the two cars, but it was a big difference in speed.
I’ve never done a time trial run in the SK car and
it’s going to be learning little things like where
to get off and back on the gas and then how hard can
I get back on the gas. I’m hoping it won’t be too
much for me to take in.”
Being that the NAPA Fall Final will be Williams’
first Whelen Modified Tour start, he has set mild
expectations for his debut effort.
“I think a top-10 would be the ultimate but my main
goal will be to just finish the race,” said
Williams. “I haven’t really had a lot of time to
think about it. I want to have some fun and see what
I can do. I wasn’t really able to show much in my
MRS debut so I’m hoping for a little better than
that. Teddy is the best modified driver around and
his car can win and is capable of winning and I
can’t thank him enough for the opportunity to drive
his car.”
The Whelen Modified Tour cars will qualify for the
NAPA Fall Final 150 on Saturday, Oct. 3rd before
hitting the track for 150 laps on Sunday, Oct. 4th.
Saturday’s racing card will also feature heat and
consolation races for Stafford’s weekly divisions
along with feature events for the SK Light, Limited
Late Model, DARE Stock, and Legend Cars divisions.
Sunday’s action kicks off with the NAPA Pit Party
from 11am-12noon with the SK Modifieds® taking the
green flag at 1pm followed by the Late Model and
Whelen Modified Tour feature events. Tickets for the
