MCKENNEDY
CROWNED VMRS CHAMPION
FOR FOURTH TIME |
Jon
McKennedy of East Chelmsford, MA, was officially
crowned 2016 Valenti Modified Racing Series Champion
Saturday evening, November 19, taking top honors for
the fourth time in eight years, as the 2016 season
officially drew to a close at the 13th annual awards
banquet at The Yard Banquet Hall in Manchester, NH.
McKennedy thanked sponsors Exit Realty and
Christopher’s Towing for their support, his
dedicated crew, spotter Kelly Lajoie, family, and
even his employer for showing support. The 29-year
old driver also expressed his gratitude to racing
fans that support auto racing.
McKennedy received champion racing jackets from
series sponsors New England Racing Fuels (Sunoco)
and Hoosier Racing Tire East. Charlie Holland of
Sunoco, and Rob Summers, of Hoosier Tire made the
presentations.
The series top-15 car owners and drivers were
recognized and received awards from series
officials. Annual specialty awards were also
presented.
The Mechanic of the Year Award was presented to “The
29 Team” of McKennedy. The Jack’s Competition
Engines Most Improved Driver award was presented to
19-year old Brandon Dion.
Tough Luck Award to Rob Richardi, Sportsmanship
Award to David Schneider, Rookie of the Year to
Colbey Fournier, and the Dedication to Racing Award
to George Sherman.
The 12th annual ‘7-11’ award from Hall of Fame
driver Bob Polverari was presented to Matt Mead for
his professional attitude on and off the track, and
the Above and Beyond Award to series advisor Ben
Dodge.
Series president Jack Bateman noted Valenti Auto
Group will again sponsor the series in 2017, Hoosier
Tire and New England Racing Fuel will return in
their support role and right now it appears the
series will be releasing a 12-event schedule in the
next two weeks. Bateman is awaiting confirmation on
race dates from one race track before releasing an
official schedule.
