PATRICK EMERLING CAPITALIZES AND SCORES SECOND LANCASTER NATIONAL SPEEDWAY FERRIS MOWERS RACE OF CHAMPIONS FUELED BY SUNOCO WIN IN ‘OL’ BOY CUP 60

The Ferris Mowers Race of Champions fueled by Sunoco took center stage this past Thursday at Lancaster National Speedway in the ‘Ol’ Boy Cup 60 to honor the late Bill Colton and when the dust settled Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y., stood proudly in victory lane. Emerling took the lead when Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y., suffered driveline troubles while leading just past the halfway mark of the event.

‘That was a wild one,” stated Emerling following his series leading third victory. “We were racing Chuck (Hossfeld) hard and Daren got into the back of us in the end, but we were able to hang on. I am proud of my all guys and this has just been a tremendous season for us. It’s exciting and Lancaster has been very good to us to this point. We have been having a good season overall and hope to keep it rolling.”

Daren Scherer started on the pole on led the opening laps of the race before Hossfeld, who started 11th, worked his way to the top spot after powering by Emerling and Scherer in traffic on lap 15. Emerling was quick to get to second and give chase to Hossfeld. Hossfeld and Emerling battled each other on several restarts until Hossfeld’s departure from the race.

Emerling looked to be in control once Hossfeld went to the infield, but Scherer of Binghamton, N.Y., pulled to Emerling’s back bumper in the closing laps of the 60-lap feature. Emerling was able to hold off Scherer at the checkered flags with Mike Leaty of Williamson, N.Y., coming home third. Tyler Rypkema of Owego, N.Y., made his way from 17th to 4th with Daryl Lewis, Jr., of Ontario, N.Y., recording a fifth place finish.

Hossfeld posted a series leading fourth consecutive fast time in the Timed Hot Lap session to establish the heat race line ups with a time of 16.668 seconds (107.991 mph).

Colton RV and Troyer Race Cars passed out over 4,000 in additional cash and certificate awards in honor of Bill Colton. Rob Laskowski also posted a lap fund that reached nearly $2,500 in cash awards handed out that night.

The next event for the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series fueled by Sunoco is the Thunder in the Hills 100 at Holland (N.Y.) International Speedway on Saturday, July 9.
