LANCASTER ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR 28TH ANNUAL U.S. OPEN

Lancaster National Speedway is putting together plans for its annual rite of autumn, the US Open. The 28th edition of Western New York’s racing finale will take place September 23 to 25, 2016 with seven divisions of racing on tap.

US Open weekend kicks off with a practice session for all teams on Friday night September 23. The annual U.S. Open Kickoff Party gets going as soon as the on-track action wraps up with live music in the main concourse featuring the popular 1980 Something cover band.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m. on Friday with practice running from 6 to 9:30. Grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m. with free general admission for all race fans wanting to watch practice.

Racing action begins at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday with heats and features for the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders, NYPA TQ Midgets, Super Stocks and the Sunoco Sportsman.

The 75-lap Sunoco Sportsman feature is the main event on Saturday with many visiting cars expected to try and make the show. Last season, Tony Hanbury of Orchard Park, N.Y. ended Andy Jankowiak’s five-race win streak at the US Open with a victory in one of the biggest Sportsman Modified races in the Northeast.

Pit gates will open at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 24 with grandstand gates opening at 2 p.m., just as practice gets under way. Heat racing will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The weekend culminates with the US Open 125 for the Race of Champions Modified Series on Sunday, September 25. The event is the longest race on the Lancaster National Speedway schedule. Last year Matt Hirschman of Northampton, PA made a pass for the lead with 18 laps remaining to win his fourth US Open 125.

The X-Press Signs Late Models and Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks will also be a part of the Sunday afternoon program. The Street Stock field could be the most competitive of the weekend as the division has averaged more than 20 cars on a weekly basis with eight different feature winners, so far, in 2016.

Pit gates open at 11 a.m. for Sunday’s program with grandstand gates opening when practice commences at noon. Opening ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. followed by time trials for the Modifieds.

Two-day adult general admission tickets are just $40, which is a savings of $5 for fans. A student (age 12-17) weekend ticket is $15, with kids under 12 free. Family passes are available for two adults and two students. Free camping is available all weekend in the speedway parking lot.
